 Xiaoran Fan b.1998 is a sculptor and researcher from Sichuan, China, currently based in Glasgow and London . His practice explores sculpture as a process of transformation, where materials are treated not as inert matter but as active participants. Drawing from alchemy, Daoist philosophy, and posthumanist theory, he works with organic, inorganic, and synthetic materials to create hybrid forms that embody ecological entanglement and cultural dialogue. His cross-cultural background is rooted in Chinese traditions of Daoist alchemy and further developed through studies in Italy and the UK. This background shapes a methodology that combines material experimentation with philosophical inquiry. Fan’s works have been exhibited internationally in China, the UK, Italy, and Japan. They often combine sculpture and painting, creating hybrid forms that blur boundaries between the natural and the artificial, the human and the nonhuman. Through this approach, his practice reflects on ecological crisis, challenges anthropocentrism, and reimagines the vitality of matter in contemporary culture.
